Catalysts for change The Fence

We've shared this with Wu-Shin classes quite a few times over the years - and came across it again recently. It is far too appropriate not to share one more time!

The Fence

There once was a little boy who had a bad temper. His father gave him a bag of nails and told him that every time he lost his temper, he must hammer a nail into the fence. The first day the boy had driven 37 nails into the fence.

Catalysts for change The importance of understanding the principles

goalA personal reflection from Shaz

I'm the first to admit I'm usually goal-oriented and impatient. I dislike what I consider to be time wasters and like information to be packaged appropriately - just enough to get on with what I'm expected to do, without any bothersome and unnecessary detail. This, I believe, is time-efficient and serves me well.

But over the years I've learnt that it is only efficient in the short term.

I now reluctantly admit that there are times when it is better, certainly in the longer term, to take the time to learn and understand the principles behind certain things - rather than simply how to deal with today's challenge and tick an item off my "to do" list.

Catalysts for change Looking for the answers?

"You came out here looking for the answers - really for your power.

You thought someone was going to hand it to you or tell you more stories.

I've told you all I can. It was within you all the time."

Catalysts for change Dream, or die

A little aimless browsing lead to the discovery of a profound saying that's worth sharing. A t-shirt with the words:

Dream or die...

It is simple, yet profound - and reminded me of another saying:

There are many ways to lose your life. Dying is only one of them.

If there's one thought to bear in mind during the traditional year-end period of introspection, it's the need to get in touch with your dreams and to plan to turn them iinto action.
