I agree with Einstein's claim: "You cannot solve the problem with the same kind of thinking that created the problem". Worldwide, human societies are beset with self-perpetuating anti-social problems, mostly driven by the enforcement of (necessary) conformity applied, unfortunately, in an environment and manner that is self-defeating, and conflict generating. Conformity, as a means to achieve social integration and harmony, is sustainable only when it is the natural expression of a 'free spirit'. Therein lies the problem - humans procreate freely, but seldom is much effort focused on nurturing and mentoring strong, self-disciplined, 'free' individuals (children and adults) with whom to build a harmonious social structure. In order to resolve this ubiquitous state of intrinsic and extrinsic conflict, one needs to fully understand the nature of this affliction. It is here that the Wu-Shin Chi-Dao Foundation and its appropriate application of specific principles of traditional and classical martial, self-healing arts, and life-skills, can come to the fore. Knowledge and understanding of, and extensive interaction with, all the elements of conflict (physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual) render it controllable, manageable, and ultimately detachable. Obviously, by definition, the modern recreational combative sports of karate, judo, kungfu, aikido, kendo, mixed martial arts (?), etc., etc., are excluded from the formal category of traditional 'martial arts' (arts of war/the warrior).

My life's desire has been, and is, to inspire aspiring individuals to continually strive to achieve their ultimate, evolving, personal potential - worthy of admiration, honour, and emulation. A potential that is imbued with the essential qualities of sincerity, honesty, reliability, trust, and benevolence - some of the characteristics of a 'free-spirit'. In essence, this is realised as a shared journey of self-discovery and expression. Our Foundation Family helps to engender a 'new' mindset - a slow, evolving process with every single keiko (training effort) being an important constituent of the growth-experience. We are striving to inspire positively, and mentor, one individual at a time. If a single, matured 'Mandela' could defuse a potential racial/tribal conflagration in an entire country, how much more could be achieved across all levels of human existance by a further 10 individuals of similar wisdom and 'mental freedom'. Every one, seemingly tiny action (or person), can make all the difference: Somewhere, somehow, to someone:

"Tell me the weight of a snowflake," a coal-mouse (a small bird) asked a wild dove.

"Nothing more than nothing," was the answer.

"In that case, I must tell you a marvellous story," the coal-mouse said.

"I sat on the branch of a fir, close to its trunk, when it began to snow - not heavily, not in a raging blizzard - no, just like in a dream, without a wind, without any violence. Since I did not have anything better to do, I counted the snowflakes settling on the twigs and needles of my branch. Their number was exactly 3,741,952. When the 3,741,953rd dropped onto the branch, nothing more than nothing as you say, the branch broke off."

Having said that, the coal-mouse flew away.

The dove, since Noah's time an authority on the matter, thought about the story for a while, and finally said to herself: "Perhaps there is only one person's voice lacking for peace to come to the world."

Our Foundation Family can never tell the value or impact of a single person - therefore we welcome all who display the three fundamental qualities - 'aspiration', 'sincerity' and 'commitment' - to join us on our journey of purposeful action and personal growth.

I share with you a passionate statement (a call to meaningful action) by Robert Muller, former Secretary-General of the United Nations:

"Use every letter you write

Every conversation you have

Every meeting you attend

To express your fundamental beliefs and dreams.

Affirm to others the vision of the world you want.

You are a free, immensely powerful source

Of life and goodness.

Affirm it.

Spread it.

Radiate it.

Think day and night about it

And you will see a miracle happen:

The greatness of your own life."

We can never tell the value or impact of a single action (or inaction).

A professional Personality Profile assessment of Bob was undertaken by Thomas International Management Systems (who had no prior knowledge of his vocation):

1. Managing and Motivating... He has natural man-management and motivation characteristics. He should have no problems in convincing people and influencing them toward his way of thinking, nor in directing them toward an end result. He is likely to have abilities to discipline others and should be very positive in his handling of people. There are also indicators that he will employ his knowledge and experience in managing both people and situations.

2. Decision Making... His characteristics indicate that he is a good decision maker, particularly in his own field of expertise. There is no doubt that he will in normal circumstances, wish to check things in a systematic and logical manner prior to taking decisions, in order to be sure that he chooses the right decision route.

3. Planning and Problem Solving... He is likely to be a particularly good long-term planner. With regard to problem solving, he has the drive to want to create solutions to problems.

4. Communication... He is certainly a positive communicator, normally resourceful and very effective in getting other people to see his views. He has an ability, verbally, to present facts and figures and to this end can convince more serious-minded and technical people to his way of thinking via his expertise.

5. Developing others... Being a people person, there are clear indicators that this individual will have much time for considering the requirements of and for developing other people. He is likely to put emphasis on technical aspects of development and people skills as well as results.

6. Describing words... Influential, active, logical, self-starter, persuasive, firm, open-minded, competitive, assertive, outgoing, gregarious, impatient, restless, energetic, asks 'what', 'who', and 'why'.

As a form of self-audit, undertaken in order to establish how others have perceived me over the last few decades, I contacted a number of my traceable, past students late 2009 / early 2010. They were invited to extend a 'warts and all' reflection on what impact, if any, the training experiences we had shared had on their lives to date. I foresaw this as a potential reference-beacon for the future direction of the services the Wu-Shin Chi-Dao Foundation should consider offering following my relocation to New Zealand at the end of 2010. Extracts from responses are displayed chronologically (most recent student first) under the Bob's testimonial section; the original letters are available on file.
